Manfrotto 190CXPRO3 3-Section Pro Carbon Fiber Tripod without Head

Excellent price for a carbon fiber tripod. The 190CXPRO3 is very light, feels sturdy and easy to manipulate. I've mounted my D300 with 70-200 2.8 on this tripod and while I had initial reservations about it's ability to handle the weight, it passed with flying colors. I used this recently at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden and I had fun. It was light enough to move quickly from one spot to another with the camera mounted. I certainly appreciated the difference in weight from my old Manfrotto tripod when I was walking home with my camera bag containing the tripod.

Outstanding stable lightweight when combined with high power birding scope. The tripod to have as the 4 section tripods take longer to get set to capture that fast moving bird. Combine with simple head and make sure you can shorten through assembly, the shaft that moves the scope up and down/sideways so the shaft does not stick you in the chest or neck when using in the field

Cliff notes: Do you get your money's worth? YES! Long version: The tripod can be easily and quickly adjusted in all directions. It will support weights far heavier than specified, provided that you tighten the friction clamps on the legs and don't spread them out at extreme angles. I haven't tried standing on it, though. The tripod is not overly heavy, but isn't exactly light either; it's well-built and I'm confident putting my DSLR on it, even in the wind. Converting the center column to horizontal obviously reduces stability, but there is a hook for a counterweight at the apex of the legs. You will pay good money for this tripod, but you will get your money's worth. I paired these tripod legs with a Bogen-Manfrotto 486RC2 head, which goes well with it.

Bogen/Manfrotto has been making great tripods for a very long time. The 190XPROB is a variation on the old 3021 by Bogen. Let me start by saying that this tripod is not the lightest tripod out there, it might not be a great choice for a tripod to take hiking, but if you don't have to carry it long distances, this model will work very well for you. It is very stable and the adjustable center shaft allows for a very wide array of camera setups. It is simply very versatile. Team it up with a good head, a Bogen 3047 in my case, and you will have a great setup for a lot less than many other options out there.
